ABOUT DR. SUMIT KUMAR SONKAR

Dr. Sumit Kumar Sonkar received his B. Sc. (2003) and M. Sc. (2005) from the Christ Church College, Kanpur.

He earned his Ph.D. (2012) in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, under the supervision of Prof. Sabyasachi Sarkar.

After his postdoctoral training at Clemson University, South Carolina with Prof. Ya-Ping Sun, he joined as Assistant Professor at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, India in 2013.
Research Interests
Our research focuses on the synthesis and applications of carbon nanomaterials, in particular synthesis of doped and functionalized carbon nanomaterials. Doped and functionalized carbon nanomaterials exhibit fluorescence properties due to surface passivation. Our group concentrates mainly on graphene-based, biomass-derived carbon nanoparticles, metal based nanoparticles, etc. These nanomaterials are used for various applications such as photocatalysis, adsorption, wastewater treatment, sensing, bioimaging, organic synthesis and as a plant growth nano fertilizer.
